BOXTOROW unveiled its 2023 HBCU College Football All-America Team where Howard University had three Bison selected. The announcement came Monday morning.
Offensive Linemen graduate Anim Dankwah (Toronto, Canada) and redshirt sophomore Da’Metrius Weatherspoon (Clairton, Pa.) and reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Year junior defensive back Kenny Gallop, Jr. (Portsmouth, Va.) made the team after leading the Bison to back-to-back league titles and the program’s first-ever berth to the Cricket Celebration Bowl.
Dankwah and Weatherspoon earned spots on the All-MEAC First Team after anchoring the conference’s top offense, averaging nearly 384 yards per game.
Defensively, Gallop, a two-time HBCU All-American, and the Bison secondary topped the country in pass defense, allowing only 129.1 yards per game in the air.
Senior wideout Kasey Hawthorne (Sebring, Fla.) and second-year Bison punter Aaron Bickerton (Stoke-on-Trent, England) received honorable mention.
In total, 16 programs are represented of the 31 selections with North Carolina Central leading the way (5).
BOXTOROW has named the All-America Team since 2007, based on voting by media who cover HBCU Football.
On Dec. 16, Howard plays its final game of the 2023 campaign at the Cricket Celebration Bowl in Atlanta where they will face the Southwestern Athletic Conference Champion No. 5 Florida A&M. Kickoff is scheduled for noon on ABC.
